New: Reusable To-Go Containers For Your Food!
Hello Friends,
We’re thrilled to announce our new collaboration with To Go Green, which will allow us to offer your favorite Teaism meals in reusable to-go containers.
To Go Green, a locally founded initiative, is on a mission to reduce the significant issue of single-use waste, by making it possible to order from your preferred restaurants in containers that are reusable. We are proud to team up with this ambitious company, co-founded by Harrison and Kevin Kay, to hopefully make a big impact on the way we order food to go. Harrison and Kevin were awardees of the D.C. DOEE and Chesapeake Bay Trust’s “Ditch the Disposables” grant, the same grant that allowed us to implement a reusable cup program at Teaism.
Over the last 7 years or so, we have been approached by people in the food and environmental policy world, asking if Teaism would ever offer reusable carry-out containers as an option. We expressed that while we would love to be able to offer it as an option, we simply do not have the bandwidth as small business operators to manage a program for so many different types of containers, to track inventory and ensure getting those containers back. Besides, a consensus was becoming clear that the way for reusable to-go containers to be most meaningfully used by restaurants would have to be through a more uniform, city-wide program.
This is why we are happy to be working with To Go Green. They are working to create something that can be scaled to lots of restaurants over time, and they are listening closely to the restaurants’ specific needs and roadblocks.
As we begin this journey with them, please be patient and understand that food may be in a differently-sized container than you are used to. As always, we are grateful for your support and hope you will give To Go Green a shot!
Sincerely,
The Teaism Team
p.s. – We will not be merging our reusable cup program with To Go Green’s offerings at this time. We’d like to get our bearings first. 🙂
