Folding Paper, Sipping Tea: A Night of Zine-Making at Teaism

This August, we traded our screens for scissors, glue sticks, and markers at Teaism Penn Quarter. Reb, Eve, and Alina from DC Zinefest joined us and led this engaging, sold-out workshop.

To begin, our DC Zinefest collaborators started the evening by sharing a bit of zine history. They then showed everyone how to fold and cut a single sheet of paper into a blank canvas for their own zine.

Fueled by delicious Teaism food and a sampling of our teas, folks got creative — cutting up magazines, books, newspapers, and more; drawing; and using stamps to tell a whole range of stories.

We also passed three collaborative zines around the room for everyone to add to. Many people also made their own tea-inspired zines. We loved seeing all the beautiful creations.

Take a look at a few incredible tea-themed zines, including the collaborative zines:

Interested in more about zines? DC Zinefest, an annual, one-day event that provides a space for zine-makers, self-published artists, and writers to share their work, will be held on November 14, 11am–4pm at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our friends at DC Zinefest for sharing their craft. We’re celebrating our 30th anniversary all year, so keep an eye out for more events at teaism.com/30th.
